Lauren Weintraub encapsulates heartbreak with new single “Missing You”

Nashville singer-songwriter and self-described half-pint dynamite Lauren Weintraub released her new single “Missing You” on March 18. The same day, Weintraub announced that she signed a record deal with Virgin Music.

“Missing You” tells the poignant story of acknowledging and radically accepting being alone when a relationship ends. Weintraub sings of the sharp pain of wanting to reach out just one more time but knowing it would serve you better to learn to love yourself again.

As with all of Weintraub’s songs, the lyricism of “Missing You” reflects a retrospection far beyond her 23 years, and offers a blend of pop and country vocals that sound like how good coffee tastes: deep and rich.

“Missing You” is a triumph of original songwriting and the genre-bending nature of today’s most popular country.

Reminiscent of Tate McRae or “Golden Hour”-era Kacey Musgraves, Weintraub sings about the silence after the storm, and just how loud that silence can be.

Weintraub sings with conviction, particularly on the line “long as it’s a game I’m bound to lose/ hardest damn thing I’m gonna have to do.” Her voice gets as close to breaking with emotion as it can while retaining the body she is known for.

Weintraub gained recognition online after posting a now-viral TikTok featuring her 2021 single “She’s Mine.” Since her rise to TikTok fame, she has released four more original singles including “Missing You,” and was nominated for the 2022 “TikTok Songwriter of the Year” iHeart Music Award.

Her other accolades include first place in The Recording Academy’s Grammy U songwriting contest and “Top Shelf” designation in NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series.

“Missing You” is now streaming on all music platforms.
